Unfortunately I didn’t get a before picture of the large dining table that my dad has been working on. The table top looked as though a child had taken a biro and scrawled circles all over the table top. It was a mass of scratches, with a dark reddish, thick varnish on top – not a match made in heaven.
I went up to my dad’s workshop today to see how things were progressing, and the table looks lovely. The top hasn’t been waxed yet, but all it’s having is a clear wax and some buffing; there’s no way that the lovely graining is being obscured by varnish.
The base has been painted in Annie Sloan ‘Country Grey’.
Here it is, just look at that amazing graining (which my dad says is walnut):
